Eb the Celeb interviews Mr. Freaknasty aka R&B singer Avant
A fan of Avant since the first album so it was a pleasure sitting down with him and previewing his new album “Wake Up.” When he first came on the scene a lot of people compared him to R. Kelly because of his sexually evoked lyrics but 6 albums later there are no more comparisons. He’s definitely a freak in his own right with a different delivery and sound. In this interview he talks about being a freak, strippers, and the title track from his new album that talks about waking up with a boner in the middle of the night and wanting to get it on with his lady. Check it out:
The first single off the new album is “Kiss Goodby”e and will be available on iTunes September 22nd. Here is the leaked track list with a lil Eb the Celeb tidbit about the record.
1. Had Enough
A club joint produced by Cajun (He produced Sex Room for Ludacris) The drums make my booty bounce heavy. Can definitely hear this joint in the club early in the night right before it’s about to get poppin’
2. Hot 16
He played on the concept how every rappers comes up to you and says that have a “Hot 16.” Throughout the record he compares writing a song to making love. Very creative. I like!
3. Kiss Goodbye
He introduced this record saying “strippers will sleep with you but they won’t kiss you.” I thought that was hilarious. He went on to say “lips don’t lie” and that a kiss is the way to tell if a chick is cheating on you. Hmmmmmmmm interesting notion. Nice smooth groove. One of my favorite records on the album.
4. Body Police
Here croons about giving a chick a charge for being too sexy. “Put your hands up where I can see and spread em” never sounded so pleasuring. The ultimate roll play song in my book.
5. Nightlife
Nothin special about this record but its not bad. Cool album filler.
6. Wake Up
I love this record. He makes waking up in the middle of the night to that poke in your booty and stinky breath in your face sound sooooo good. LOL (listen in the video above at the 2:11 mark)
7. Walking On Water
He said this track is his attempt at a wedding song. “With you I’m walking on water… impossible is easy to do with you.” One of my favorite songs of all time is Tony Terry “With You” so any song with a man expressing how him being with his lady makes him feel from the most pure and genuine place gets a thumbs up from Eb. It’s a power ballad. One of my favorite tracks on the album and the live instruments are everything.
8. Where Do We Go
His attempt to tackle what’s wrong in relationships. He blames it heavily on social media. Take a listen.
9. Graduated
A song that touches on seeing someone that you went to high school with that wasn’t cute at all years later and they are now fine as hell. LOL. Cute album filler.
10. Your Body is The Business
The story behind this record is that he was in LA and saw this chick that looked like Aaliyah except she had a lot more body to her. He stepped to her and they were talking and he was really digging her but she told him that she just wanted to be friends. Now I’m thinking in my head how could you turn down a man that has dimples as cute as Avant’s. Plus he’s a freak too… shooooooo LOL. In this song he’s trying to convince her to give him the chance to hit it one good time and he’ll do her body so right that he promises she’ll want to be his boo after.
11. Never Give Up The Fight
He spoke about a couple of his family members that have been stricken with cancer and this song is for them. It’s extremely inspirational and a very pretty song about loving life and being strong.
The album reminds me a lot of his debut album which is my favorite of all his albums. That first album was just so genuine and pure R&B. He said he’s trying to move into more grown music and hates cats that are still holding on to doing club music. He called it “dude put ya drink up r&b.” LOL. I wonder if that was a backhand stab at Jamie Foxx. Joking… I am not here to start any R&B beefs but that was refreshing to hear his say and I think he definitely captured grown music. The reason I couldn’t listen to any of his other album outside of his debut from start to finish is because they seemed forced on several song, cliche to whatever was working at that moment, and were all over the place. This new album is extremely cohesive, flows well, and is filled with great music.
He also played a couple other records that didn’t make the track list that has been released. Not sure if there are going to end up on the album as bonus tracks or if the track list above isn’t official.
He played us a remake of Total “Africa.” Said he was in London on the way to the airport and it came on the radio. Said he had completely forgot about the record until that day but that it spoke to him so much that he had to record it. His rendition was great.
He also played a record called “I’m that Dude” that I had heard previously since it leaked. I wasn’t really feelin’ the record when I heard it last week. Probably because it sounds so extremely different from everything he’s recorded before. Very pop, but him explaining the concept behind it made me listen to it differently. He said people think they can change you after they sleep with you and he assures every girl in the world in this record that regardless of how well he can put it down he’s still going to be him. It’s extremely cocky and at times that can be a turn on but I know if any dude ever sang this song to my I’d slap the mess out of him. LOL. Maybe he should sell it to one of the young whipper snappers like Trey Songz or Chris Brown. It could probably be a big hit for one of them.
He also said that him and Keke Wyatt are going to do a duets album. 12 tracks, 6 new and 6 covers. Every record they have done together (Nothing In this World, My First Love) has been a smash. I can’t wait for this project.
